Minor League Update: Kelvin De La Cruz Dominant

Buffalo laid a shellacking on Rochester again, this time Jeff Weaver was the benefactor. It was the Herd’s best offensive outing of the year. Weaver pitched five innings giving up two earned in the 16-3 blowout. Zach Jackson and Preston Larrison pitched scoreless innings and Jeff Stevens finished it off for two more, giving up one hit and striking out five. Buffalo also ran into Jorge Julio in this game. Jorge Velandia went 4-6 with 2 RBI in his return to Buffalo. Michael Aubrey went 1-4 with a three run home run and five RBI.

Ryan Edell pitched well, but got tagged with the loss in Akron’s 3-1 defeat. Trevor Crowe was activated off the DL. Chuck Lofgren pitched two solid innings.

The second save for Vinnie Pestano in a Kinston uniform was picked up last night as five different K-Tribers knocked in a run. Mills, Denham, Cumberbatch, Rivero and Castillo all had an RBI. Jason Denham went 3-3 and Brendan Donnelly pitched a perfect inning for the hold.

Let’s hope Kelvin De La Cruz learned something from his good friend Fausto Carmona. De La Cruz pitched 6 innings last night, giving up just three hits, one unearned run, one walk and EIGHT strikeouts. Adam White knocked in a run as Lake County won the game.

The Scrappers were a walk-off loser against Lowell last night.

Minor League Update: LaPorta Makes Successful Debut

Buffalo took home the win last night against Syracuse. John Halama pitched 7.2 innings with 4 runs to get the win. Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-5 with a two run home run. Tony Graffanino who was signed a few weeks ago was activated for the Herd. He started at second and went 1-2 with a run scored. He’ll be eased into playing time though. Michael Aubrey had three runs batted in as well.

Matt LaPorta made his much anticipated debut for the Aeros last night in the double header… Akron won the first game 3-0, LaPorta went 1-3. Scott Lewis threw six innings of shutout ball to pick up the win. Wyatt Toregas went deep for the one millionth time in the last week it seems like.

James Deters struggled in the second game and the offense failed to put up any runs. We got to see Chuck Lofgren make his return with 3 innings of one hit ball in relief. LaPorta went 2-3 in that game. So a 3-6 debut for Matt isn’t bad at all.

Josh Judy improved to 8-0 out of the pen for the Captains as they defeated Hickory in their first game. Roman Pena homered in both games, but Lake County fell in the second game.

Studly pitcher J.D. Martin has been promoted to Buffalo.. He could be ready to show his stuff sooner than we thought.

Lastoria has a complete breakdown on the Trade, including quotes from Ross Atkins.
