Honors: Sabathia Player of the Week; Vote Grady

I mentioned that Jamey Carroll deserves player of the week honors, but obviously the award isn’t for guys like Jamey Carroll who hit over .600 and don’t know in any runs.

While Grady was in the running, he couldn’t beat out teammate C.C. Sabathia.

C.C. was named American League player of the week for his two stellar performances against the Twins and Padres. It included the 8 inning, 3 run, 10 strikeout game against the Pads yesterday, and the complete game shutout against the Twins earlier last week.

Congrats to C.C.

Grady still has a chance to garner some All-Star votes though.

With Travis Hafner getting injured and falling out of contention, and now Victor Martinez doing the same, Grady is the lone Indian still within striking distance in All-Star balloting.

Grizzle has just over a half a million votes so far, and he trails Ichiro, the third place outfielder by nearly 400,000. He probably doesn’t stand a chance, but Terry Francona would probably add him anyway. We could be looking at three All-Stars if C.C. continues to make that ERA shrink.

Laffey Wins AL Rookie of the Month

Aaron Laffey has won the AL Rookie of the Month Award for the month of May.

Laffey’s numbers for May were probably the best of most pitchers in the entire Majors, rookie or not.

He went 3-2 with a .79 ERA. Laffey of course was the victim of numerous run-lacking games.
